About Walther

Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen, or simply known as Walther, is one of the most renowned firearms manufacturers from Germany. The company was founded by Carl Walther himself, back in 1886, which makes it one of the longest living European gun producers. The headquarters of the German brand can be found in Ulm and Arnsberg, Germany. The current owner of the brand is the PW Group, which also holds rights to Walther Arms, Inc., an American subsidiary of the famous brand, currently located in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Walther is known for a huge range of semi-automatic pistols, many of which served as an inspiration for more modern gun manufacturers. Apart from handguns, Walther also produces a variety of rifles, shotguns, and submachine guns. Although the brand is without a doubt best known for their pistols, it was not until 1908 that Walther started producing the first semi autos. It was actually Fritz Walther, the oldest son of Carl Walther, who developed the brand’s very first pistols. The first models, labelled 1 to 5, were chambered for the .25 ACP and .32 ACP calibers.

A real breakthrough in Walther’s history came in 1929. This was the year when the first Walther PP pistols were designed and introduced to the market. Walther PP actually stands for “Polizeipistole”, which can be translated as “Police Pistol” and the design soon became the main sidearm of the German police forces. This model was later upgraded into the Walther PPK (Polizeipistole Kriminalmodell, or Police Pistol Detective Model). Both PP and PPKs were manufactured in .22 Long Rifle, .32 ACP (the most common caliber), .380 ACP and a very small number in .25 ACP. The PP models were the first mass-produced pistols with stamped parts, but the overall increase in dependability and high quality of production with lower relative manufacturing costs made them the best option to replace the P-08 Luger, used as the main side arm by the army of Nazi Germany.

To this day, Walther remains one of the most resounding names of the firearms industry. Not only do they make compact handguns ideal for everyday concealed carry, the company also produces pistols for Law Enforcement and military purposes, but you can find your favorite on their offers also if you’re looking for an ideal competition shooting handgun.
