The P1 is a post war version of Walther P38. After the Second World War, the allied forces prohibited all German manufacturers from producing firearms. In 1957 Walther started the production of the P38 again, which was accepted into function by the new German army as the P1. This new version has a shorter barrel and a tautened lever. After the Second World War, the P1 pistol was fabricated by the French company Manurhin. The French armed forces moved part of the Walther production machinery to France in 1945, together with a large feed of weapon parts.
